Undescribed WA Perginae sp.

Workbook

There are some iNaturalist observations, shown below, of a Perginae species from south-west WA which are different to any of the described species in that subfamily.

Antennal length, number of antennomeres, small size of hind lobes of scutellum and direction of 3rd cubital cross vein suggest this is a Perga sp.

Relatively large size (approximately same as P. schiodtei?). Body all black, apart from following body parts which are bright tangerine in colour:

  • dorsal region of occiput

  • antenna tubercles

  • clypeus and labrum

  • scutellum (with black hind lobes)

  • pronotum

  • posterior half of mesepisternum

  • anterior side of fore femur, basal region of mid and hind femora, fore tibia, basal half of mid and hind tibia, fore tarsi and in part, ventral side of mid and hind tarsi

There is no described Perga sp. with this distinctive black and tangerine colouration.
