Chrysolarentia severata
Workbook
We have seen this moth on several occasions - see iNaturalist observations 59195006, 59111463, 57625298, 57481918. It shows a wide range of variation in wing pattern and colour, making it difficult to be sure of the species identity.
This individual, captured on Oct 23, 2019 light sheet collection (iNat57481918) looks very similar to Chrysolarentia severata.
However other individuals look very different, making identification difficult.
I captured and pinned the following individual, seen on bedroom window on 13 Sept 2020.
We will send this to Glenn Cocking so he can compare it to the ANIC specimens of this species.
Photographs below taken of pinned prep before shipping.
Second specimen photographed and collected on 17 September 2020.
21mm wingspan
This is a workbook page … a part of our website where we record the observations and references used in making species identifications. The notes will not necessarily be complete. They are a record for our own use, but we are happy to share this information with others.
