Life History studies: raising caterpillars
Collected at home from Eucalypus leaves, 8/2/19.
Similar to Doratifera quadriguttata, but not identical to images of elsewhere - ALA, Don Herbison-Evan's site, and the image in Roger Farrow's book (page 105).
Family Limacodidae (with over 70 species in Australia, across 26 genera)
Both caterpillars feeding voraciously on any Eucalyptus leaves provided. I haven’t noticed any preference for a particular species of Eucalyptus.
3rd March: both still feeding well. They are identical, and have nearly doubled in length in the past 3 weeks. They are also more strongly coloured.
This is a workbook page … a part of our website where we record the observations and references used in making species identifications. The notes will not necessarily be complete. They are a record for our own use, but we are happy to share this information with others.
