An hour’s drive to our north, nearly 1000m above sea level, but just 47 km from the coast. A swampy area surrounded by tall eucalypt forest. Patches of dry ground, boggy areas, small pools and seepage. Grasses, forbs and low shrubs, many in flower. And insects galore.

Our friends, experienced naturalists both, introduced us to this special place last week. A natural jewel buried deep within the South East Forests National Park.

Many of the plants are high-country species, and the insects include both the familiar and the new. Here is small glimpse.
