Life in a Southern Forest

Simply Glossies

The Winter-quiet of the forest continues. Yet one afternoon this week we heard plaintive calls as a flock of six Glossy Black-Cockatoos flew gracefully overhead.

Unsure if they had landed or flown on, I waited an hour before investigating - trusting that by then they would be well-settled, and not disturbed by my approach. And, sure enough, there they were – feeding in the top of a very tall casuarina (Allocasuarina littoralis), not far from the house.

I never tire of watching these birds. And to see six together is an unusual treat!
